EdCamp is coming to WMU!
Something new and exciting is coming to WMU this year. As teachers, we often have the chance to attend professional development sessions. As a matter of fact, we have that opportunity every Wednesday afternoon when the students are dismissed early! But we are excited to offer a new kind of professional learning experience not only for WMU staff, but for educators in surrounding districts!
Edcamps are organic, participant-driven professional learning experiences for educators across the country and worldwide. You know what else is great about EdCamps? They are FREE, and open to all educators. Participants in EdCamps drive the content of the day. EdCamp has an agenda that's created by the participants at the start of the event. By sharing ideas right away at the beginning of the event, participants can be confident that there will be topics of interest to them throughout the day.
WMU staff had the opportunity to participate in a “mini” EdCamp at their full day of professional development on January 16th. Some of the sessions that were decided on for that event included Blended Learning, Science Standards and Project Based Learning, Technology Tools, and a popular session on Twitter, and its applications in education. The staff’s response to the event was very positive, and staff is looking forward to the February event.
The half-day EdCamp Southeast Iowa will be held at WMU School on Saturday, February 18th, from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM. All interested educators are encouraged to attend this FREE event. Plan to bring your laptop or any other tech devices, as wifi connections will be available on-site. Refreshments will be provided. If you have ANY questions, please feel free to get in touch with Lindsey Pogmore, at (319) 257-7700 ext. 127. We hope you can join us for this exciting event!

Unlike traditional conferences which have schedules set months in advance by the people running the conference, Edcamp has an agenda that's created by the participants at the start of the event.
